The fifth annual CANS conference will be held at the Downtown Hilton Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee on
September 28th through September 30, 2008. Individuals interested in presenting are requested to submit
a proposal for a paper or poster by August 15, 2008. Presentations can involve the CANS or any of the
related tools including the Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA), Young Adult Needs and Strengths
(YANSA), the Childhood Severity or Acuity of Psychiatry Illness (CSPI, CAPI), The following topics are
encouraged:
- Matching assessments to service planning, including EBPs
- Impact of implementing structured assessments on the performance of programs, agencies or systems
- Using assessments to guide level of care or intensity of services
- Evaluating services-outcomes and outcome trajectories
- Enhancing family involvement in the assessment process
- Using structured assessments in team processes
- Policy issues with the use of evidence-based assessments
- Implementation issues with evidence-based assessments
- Cross-systems applications of evidence-based assessments
- Strategies for providing feedback to family and providers
- Total Clinical Outcomes Management (TCOM)
We are also looking for a select number of pre-conference workshops (3-4 hours) on the afternoon of
September 28th on topics including integrating the CANS in child family team meetings, service planning,
and evaluation (TCOM) applications. These will be offered on the afternoon of September 28th
